"Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in His holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home; He leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land." Psalm 68:4-5

Great Days: Days 4 and 5

On Saturday (Day 4), Sofia woke up at six and proceeded to shout "Buenos Dias!" to Mamí, Papí, and Hermana. We had a great day today and Sofia kept saying, "This is my new house. I live with you now." We felt this was a good thing as she is processing what is going on.
We found out that Sofia is scared of dogs, which is not good because we have six dogs, four of whom are big. So we took her to the park to try and introduce her to some dogs. It was somewhat successful! She actually reached out a petted one!
At the park, Sofia also played on the swings and we watched a soccer game.

We also went to MegaMaxi today. We think this was Sofia's first time ever going grocery shopping. She really wanted to help us go shopping. She would get soup off the shelves and put it in the cart. We also found out that she is very comfortable with strangers. She walks up to everyone and gives them hugs. We are already working on giving hugs to only friends and family. We figure that she feels so comfortable with strangers because many volunteers came in and out of her orphanage, all of whom were strangers but they were all nice and played with Sofia.
We have decided that going shopping with Sofia is like going shopping with a toddler. She is so intrigued by everything and wants to touch everything she sees. She was allowed to get some hair clips and headbands, and she held on to them so tight and wouldn't put them in the cart. When we went to checkout, she did not want to give them to the cashier. I think she thought that she wasn't going to get them back! We had to take them out of her hand one-by-one and give them right back to her! :) So, we probably won't be going shopping again anytime soon ;)
Later on, Sofia stayed home with Papí while Mamí and I went shopping for Sofia's going away party. Since Sofia loves the Smurfs, we got Smurf party supplies. We also got jello, animal crackers, and chips. We'll pick up a cake before we head to her party this afternoon :)
On Sunday (Day 5), we were planning on going to church at English Fellowship Church where we went last year and absolutely loved. But we got mixed up on times and missed the service. So we stayed at the apartment and listened to worship music. Here is a video of Sofia dancing to one of our favorite songs, 10,000 Reasons.
Sunday morning, Sofia sat on my lap and we played with a hat, a  tie, and our fingers. I loved having her sit on my lap as we played quietly. I am so in love with this sweet, sweet girl.

Sofia has a very active imagination and tells us to say "Hello," "Goodbye," and "I'm sorry" to anything - hats, ties, pony tail holders, balloons, even her fingers. She finds anything to play with.
On Saturday, Sofia saw a hairdryer for the first time. She was terrified. She screamed and ran. The next day when she saw it again, she wasn't as scared and actually made a game out of it. She would throw her balloon and want the hairdryer to blow it towards her.
She was also afraid of ceiling fans at first, but now she is obsessed with them. When we were at a restaurant  she even asked the waitress to turn the fan on for her. Every time we go someplace, she asks if there is a "ventilador," and if there's not, she asks why.
Yesterday (Sunday), we had the opportunity to visit with the foster family that took such great care of Alison before she became a Broaddus. We had a great time with them and hope to meet up with them again before we leave.
Today Sofia started her first day of school. The psychologist at the orphanage thought that it would be a good idea if she went to a preschool for four hours a day while we are here to prepare her for school in the States. At the orphanage she only went to school for one hour a day with a private tutor, so this school will be great to prepare her for school at home. Sofia had been to this school some time back for speech and language, so she remembered some of the teachers there. She had a great day and is excited to go back! :)
Well, we've decided to nickname Sofia Tsunami Sofia because she makes a mess wherever she goes! She makes a huge mess when she eats and when she is looking for something. If she can't find her corbata, she throws all the covers off the beds, throws things off the table, and just makes a huge mess. She just gets so frantic looking for her tie! We are working on patience, and she can't have her tie until she picks up her mess. She is responding well to that :)
Today at three o'clock Ecuadorian time we are having Sofia's going away party at the orphanage. Please pray that it goes well and everyone has a great time! :)
Here is Sofia, ready for bed last night!
Sofia loves to experiment with food, and her favorite new word is "Yuck!" I'm so glad I got a video of it! I'm still trying to get a successful video of "It's funny!"
