"Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in His holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home; He leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land." Psalm 68:4-5

Bittersweet: The Going-Away Party

Sofia was very excited for her Going-Away party this evening at the orphanage. She met with her friends and talked to them and played with them while the tias set up her Smurf party supplies. Sofia gave her closest amiga her McDonald's watch as a goodbye present. These pictures are of Sofia and her best friends at the orphanage.
We brought hats for the kids to wear. They had fun dancing before they had their sweets :)

The kids had juice, cake, chips, and animal crackers for their sweets. I feel bad for the tias (caregivers) that will have to try to put them to bed tonight :) Here Sofia is eating with her friends.

This is a picture of Sofia with her psychologist, Susana. Susana spent much time preparing Sofia for her family and has been so sweet to Sofia. We are so thankful for her! :)
Sofia's empty bed :)

Sofia hugged all her tias and friends goodbye and was ready to go. But as we were walking out the orphanage gates, she asked the psychologist, "Why isn't everybody else's parents here, too?" The psychologist explained to her that their parents will come one by one, and right now they have to wait like Sofia had to wait for the past six years. She thought about it and was sad for her friends. As we drove off in the taxi, Sofia asked her Mamí, "Why are they staying here?" Mamí explained to her that their parents hadn't come yet so they have to wait. She thought about it much and after a while she said, "My friends have to wait for their papas."
